Плеерам нужен не WMP, а драйвер MTP. Драйвер MTP, в свою очередь, требует наличия в системе User-Mode Driver Framework.
Дистрибутив WMP11 содержит как драйвер, так и фреймворк. Отсюда появилось ошибочное мнение, что MTP-устройства привязаны к определенной версии WMP.
Для установки MTP-драйверов необходимо скачать WMP11, распаковать EXE-файл (это архив) винраром, и запустить последовательно umdf.exe (драйверный фреймворк) и wmfdist11.exe (собственно драйвера). После чего можно подключать любое MTP-устройство, и наслаждаться копированием данных в проводнике
